Reef Run
Take one yellowfin through the coral. Tap, click or press space to swim up — gravity does the rest. Every gap cleared is a fish that made it past the reef.
Did you know that…
Bigger than a person
Yellowfin can reach 2.4 m in length and 200 kg in weight, and live around eight years on average.
Fast, for all that size
A yellowfin can swim at up to 75 km/h. It has to keep moving to breathe — water must flow over its gills for oxygen.
Indonesia leads the world
Indonesia landed about 1.5 million tonnes of tuna in 2023 — yellowfin, skipjack and kawakawa — roughly 19.1% of world supply.
At home in eastern and central waters
Yellowfin gather in the Banda Sea, Savu Sea, and the waters of Maluku and Papua — nutrient-rich seas on their main migration routes.
Status and overfishing
The IUCN lists yellowfin as Least Concern, but the Indian Ocean stock has declined significantly from overfishing.
A country rich in tuna
Indonesia is the world’s largest tuna producer — mostly skipjack, yellowfin and bigeye. Tuna is one of its leading exports, shipped mainly to Japan, Thailand and the United States.
